Spring Break Waxing Preparation...

Continuing from last week in preparation for spring break trips, here are some waxing tips for your beach trip.

Prep-care…Ideally, your hair should be 1/8 to 1/4 inch long for the wax to bind to the base of the hair follicle. Also pair the same day for optimum wax binding and prevention of ingrown hairs, exfoliate the area a day or so before. Caution: do not over exfoliate, which will make the area sensitive and more prone to skin lifting.

If this would be your first bikini/Brazilian wax, you should avoid caffeine before your bikini/Brazilian wax. Why? Because caffeine increases energy and sensitivity to pain. You can also take Tylenol an hour prior to your appointment time to also alleviate any discomfort. Your appointment should also not be scheduled 2 to 3 days prior to after your period. Why? Because hormones are released and can also amplify the pain.

Aftercare...the following day after being waxed, gently exfoliate the area to prevent ingrown hairs. Body scrubs and sponges work best during bathing. Apply a gentle moisturizer daily for healing, especially after toweling off to improve absorption. Do not take a hot showers, exercise, or sunbathe the first 24 hours after being waxed. Why? The area has been exfoliated and may sting and cause infection, as well as the sun will also pigment (darken) the skin where waxed.

*Next week more preparation for spring break.

Oncology Skincare and Maria's Gift from GlyMed Plus

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women today. Today, when you look around, you will see the unique things people are doing to help promote awareness of this disease and the efforts to find a cure. You cannot help be touched by all the different ways professional athletes and coaches are showing their support. From pink shoes, pink sweatbands, and pink ribbon stickers on helmets, it is great to see then all get involved. If you or someone you know is undergoing treatments, GlyMed Plus, the skincare line that I use and carry in my studio, has a program called "Maria's Gift".  Maria's Gift helps breast cancer survivors by donating GlyMed Plus professional pr...

Perhaps it is a friend, a celebrity or an activist. Whether the person is high-profile or not isn’t important. Their character and ability to inspire, guide, and teach carries much more value. This month let’s focus on the person who motivates you and thank them for their leadership. I would like you to share who inspires you? I’ve mentioned some of the characteristics of a role model, but let’s go into more detail. A  role model  is a person other people look up to in order to help determine appropriate behaviors.  Role models  can be either positive or negative. ... Virtually anyone can be a  role model , but in Western culture, publicly visible figures such as athletes, actors, musicians, and celebrities are the most common  examples , which are not always...
