Is Your Body Ready for Spring Break?

Spring is in the air, with the snow melting from the warmer temperatures. Time for vacations with our families and relaxing days by the pools. But wait! When it comes to prepping for Spring Break, I am a big advocate of spray tans, waxing, and hydrating.

As colder weather starts to die off and the warmer temperatures come, your skin will go through changes as well. During the winter weather, you will notice your skin and scalp are drier. Oils are not only great for baths and for soft skin, but are also amazing for your hair and scalp. The oils promote a healthy scalp, which in turn, gives you fast growing, shiny hair!

Get your glow on! I am an advocate for spray tans for obvious reasons, including preventing sun damage on the skin, but also to gain full and even coverage all over the body without worrying about tan lines and redness. My advice would be to receive a treatment by a professional instead of a spray booth that many tanning salons offer. The professional can customize the tan according to the individual and monitor the shade much easier than the spray booths. I suggest scheduling a spray tan 2-3 days before the vacation to be sure the tan is at its best.

Exfoliating: During the long winter days, we all get some rough dry patches of skin. No worries, this is where a good exfoliant comes into play. You can polish off the rough spots with a great exfoliant. This will remove the top layer of dead skin and give you a great spring glow.

Now for the Spring Hair Removal. Let us be honest, in the winter we forgo on shaving or waxing as often as we do in the summer, as it is not a priority during the winter. So when Spring rolls around many of us are reaching to the nearest salon for some "de-fuzzing".

Exfoliating before any type of hair removal session is essential and is always recommended. It is good to exfoliate a few days before is best, not the day of or day before, as waxing is an exfoliant as well. I would hate to have your nice new exfoliated skin damaged. Exfoliating will help loosen the skin around the hair follicle making it easier to remove, and removes the top layer of dead skin cells, for glowing skin after your treatment. Exfoliating also helps reduce ingrown hairs, because it softens the skin.

Important details to know before your bikini wax, the low down for down there. For the perfect bikini wax, start letting your hair grow now. Stop shaving the hair in the area you want waxed for at least 14-20 days before your wax service. The hair needs to be at least 1/4-inch long for the best results. Also your wax service should be done at least 48 hours before you go out in the sun. Why? The reason is that waxing has exfoliated and you have fresh new skin where it has been waxed. When that fresh new skin hits the sun, it will tan, practically burn. Therefore, you will have damaged the skin in the area, and will then appear to be darker all year round, almost shadow like. And we all do not want this.

Back to School and Staying Healthy

Back to School: Staying Healthy in the Classroom and Beyond The start of the school year is an exciting time for kids and parents alike. But it can also be a time when germs are easily spread, especially in close quarters like classrooms and school buses. Here are some tips for staying healthy during the back-to-school season: Wash your hands often.  This is the single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of germs. Be sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after being around someone who is sick.

Oncology Skincare and Maria's Gift from GlyMed Plus

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women today. Today, when you look around, you will see the unique things people are doing to help promote awareness of this disease and the efforts to find a cure. You cannot help be touched by all the different ways professional athletes and coaches are showing their support. From pink shoes, pink sweatbands, and pink ribbon stickers on helmets, it is great to see then all get involved. If you or someone you know is undergoing treatments, GlyMed Plus, the skincare line that I use and carry in my studio, has a program called "Maria's Gift".  Maria's Gift helps breast cancer survivors by donating GlyMed Plus professional pr...

Role Models

November is National Inspirational Role Models Month . No matter your age, gender, or stage in file, having someone who inspires you to be the best version of yourself is always a positive thing. Perhaps it is a friend, a celebrity or an activist. Whether the person is high-profile or not isn’t important. Their character and ability to inspire, guide, and teach carries much more value. This month let’s focus on the person who motivates you and thank them for their leadership. I would like you to share who inspires you? I’ve mentioned some of the characteristics of a role model, but let’s go into more detail. A  role model  is a person other people look up to in order to help determine appropriate behaviors.  Role models  can be either positive or negative. ... Virtually anyone can be a  role model , but in Western culture, publicly visible figures such as athletes, actors, musicians, and celebrities are the most common  examples , which are not always...
