Back to School and Staying Healthy
Back to School: Staying
Healthy in the Classroom and Beyond
The start of the school year is an exciting time for kids and parents alike. But it can also be a time when germs are easily spread, especially in close quarters like classrooms and school buses. Here are some tips for staying healthy during the back-to-school season:
- Wash your hands
often. This is the single most
important thing you can do to prevent the spread of germs. Be sure to wash your
hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after using the
bathroom, before eating, and after being around someone who is sick.
- Get your flu shot. The flu is a serious illness that can make it difficult to attend school and learn. Get your flu shot every year to protect yourself and your loved ones. (My opinion is that this is optional.)
- Eat healthy foods. Eating a healthy diet gives your body the nutrients it needs to fight off infection. Make sure to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet.
- Get enough sleep. When you're well-rested, your body is better able to fight off infection. Aim for 8-10 hours of sleep per night.
- Manage stress. Stress can weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to illness. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, yoga, or meditation.
In addition to these general tips, there are a few things you can do specifically to stay healthy at school:
- Avoid sharing food and drinks. This is a great way to prevent the spread of germs.
- Keep your backpack clean. Germs can easily spread from one surface to another, so be sure to clean your backpack regularly.
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. This will help prevent the spread of germs through the air.
- Stay home if you're sick. It's important to stay home from school if you're sick, so you don't spread your illness to others.
By following these tips, you can help ensure a healthy and happy back-to-school season!
