Oncology Skincare and Maria's Gift from GlyMed Plus

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women today.

Today, when you look around, you will see the unique things people are doing to help promote awareness of this disease and the efforts to find a cure. You cannot help be touched by all the different ways professional athletes and coaches are showing their support. From pink shoes, pink sweatbands, and pink ribbon stickers on helmets, it is great to see then all get involved. If you or someone you know is undergoing treatments, GlyMed Plus, the skincare line that I use and carry in my studio, has a program called "Maria's Gift".

Maria's Gift helps breast cancer survivors by donating GlyMed Plus professional products during the rehabilitation of the skin after the harsh effects of cancer treatment. Maria's Gift is a program that is in honor of Christine Heathman's Aunt Marie Smith Chakirian.

Christine Heathman is the CEO and formulator of the award-winning professional skincare, GlyMed Plus, as well as serves on the Utah State Board for Master Aestheticians. Christine Heathman initiated the first master aesthetic license in Utah and paved the way for other states to follow. A true aesthetician, educator, author, formulator, and advocate for aestheticians, Heathman is dedicated to the integrity of the professional skin care industry.

Christine's aunt, Marie, passed away in September 1996 but left a legacy of courage for cancer survivors everywhere, including the co-founding of Reach to Recovery sponsored by the American Cancer Society. In addition, GlyMed Plus is committed to carrying on Marie’s legacy by assisting breast cancer survivors through the Women Beyond Cancer Foundation. Marie’s Gift is an incredible collection of GlyMed Plus facial products especially well suited for cancer patients and is given at no charge to them.

This personalized GlyMed Plus skin care system is designed to Cleanse, Treat, Balance and Protect to optimize the inner youth synergy of your skin while undergoing chemo/radiation therapy. Because chemotherapy and radiation cancer therapy create special circumstances for your skin, specific products have been selected to nourish, equalize, and help repair at the cellular level.

If you or someone you know is affected by cancer and you’d like to submit their information for a Marie’s Gift, please contact your Account Manager. They will send you oncology safe and renewing products for their skin. In my studio, I offer a facial using the products to help treat the client to a relaxing treatment.

Back to School and Staying Healthy

Back to School: Staying Healthy in the Classroom and Beyond The start of the school year is an exciting time for kids and parents alike. But it can also be a time when germs are easily spread, especially in close quarters like classrooms and school buses. Here are some tips for staying healthy during the back-to-school season: Wash your hands often.  This is the single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of germs. Be sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after being around someone who is sick.

Role Models

November is National Inspirational Role Models Month . No matter your age, gender, or stage in file, having someone who inspires you to be the best version of yourself is always a positive thing. Perhaps it is a friend, a celebrity or an activist. Whether the person is high-profile or not isn’t important. Their character and ability to inspire, guide, and teach carries much more value. This month let’s focus on the person who motivates you and thank them for their leadership. I would like you to share who inspires you? I’ve mentioned some of the characteristics of a role model, but let’s go into more detail. A  role model  is a person other people look up to in order to help determine appropriate behaviors.  Role models  can be either positive or negative. ... Virtually anyone can be a  role model , but in Western culture, publicly visible figures such as athletes, actors, musicians, and celebrities are the most common  examples , which are not always...
