Men's Skin, do you care for it different than women?

Just like women, men need to take care of their skin also, so they look good for those prom pictures and more importantly, their wedding pictures. Men, your partner has taken a lot of care in making sure that they will look great for that special day, why don't you do the same? Don't know where to start? This article is a great place to start to learn.

Men and women are biologically different and therefore need special care. For men to look as successful as they feel, they need to use products that are designed for their specials skin care needs. So what does that mean?

Men's skin has several unique characteristics, one is due to higher levels of androgen hormone (testosterone) men's skin on average will be more oily and shiny, due to their sebaceous glands are more active. Because men produce more oil from within, it can also be dry on the surface. Therefore they tend to have lower levels of natural moisture, causing their skin to be more prone to dryness. Even though men's skin is slightly thicker and higher collagen density due to being disrupted during shaving, their skin can be more sensitive to damage. Thus making men's skin more prone to dryness through moisture loss. It is also regularly exposed to environmental threats including pollution, UV from the sun, and wind. This can cause free radicals activities that can accelerate the skin's aging process. Men's skin has a slightly lower pH level, as men's sweat contains more lactic acid.

Despite these differences, the way in which men should care for their skin is identical to that of women, except for the additional step of shaving, of course. Why the different products? Men's skincare is more appealing to men through packaging and fragrance.

As a skin therapist, out job is to get the best possible results for our client's skin. this cannot be achieved if our hands are tied and we're restricted to a limited product range. One of our most powerful tools in the treatment room is the consultation, skin analysis and diagnosis, which we then tailor our treatment and advise of aftercare products for our clients individual needs.

Skincare is not about vanity, but rather about improving or maintaining the health of our skin. There are still a lot of men who think looking after their skin is "pampering", something that only woman should do, instead of seeing it as a vital part of maintaining the health of their largest organ.

So men, facials and peels are not just for women, just as taking care of your skin is not only important for women, but for you too. If you are not sure where to start, check with your skin care professional, or come in to see me by scheduling a "beauty audit", if you are in the Minneapolis area.

Today, when you look around, you will see the unique things people are doing to help promote awareness of this disease and the efforts to find a cure.
