Acne Treatments...at home and in studio
Per last week’s blog, here are some treatment options for in
the treatment room that can help with your acne. But again, the best treatment
is not an instant result, the at home routine must be also followed as well.
Blackheads are a mild form of acne and are a
result of poor skin care. Blackheads are formed when oil and dead skin cells
are trapped, then exposed to the air. If you clean up your pores daily, you can
get rid of the blackheads. Washing your face with harsh cleansers also tends to
make your skin produce more oil and in turn blackheads appear faster. If you
have blackhead, I would recommend coming in for a consultation or skin
analysis, so that we can prescribe a skincare regimen to get rid of and prevent
future breakouts and blackheads to form.
As per my previous blog, there are different types of acne,
therefore, there are different types of treatments. Receive the right products
and the right treatment, your acne will get better. Receive the wrong products
and the wrong treatment, and your acne will most likely get worse. Let me help
you with getting the right treatment and products.
To take the guess work
out of your acne treatment…
In order to property treat your acne, first you need to
determine the type of acne you have. Next, you need to build a complete skin
care routine from my product recommendations. There are 4 essential skin care
steps, which you’ll do twice a day, they are as follows:
- Cleanse
- Treat
- Balancing skin hydration
- Protect
Also, when trying to combat acne-prone skin, you should avoid
pore-clogging ingredients like oils in your makeup and sunscreen. Instead
choose products that fit your skin type and your skin’s sensitivities to avoid
irritating your skin. Harsh acne products can send sensitive skin running for
oily moisturizers to soothe skin irritation, which worsen your acne. You should
err on the side of caution, like I do when recommending products and in the treatment
room services.
Facial Acne, it starts in the T-zone and spreads
to your entire face. Salicylic acid is the most effective acne treatment, but
if you are allergic (you may also be allergic to Aspirin), you still have other
options. Other options include benzoyl peroxide and glycolic acid, which can
mix and match to amend your acne outbreaks.
Back, Chest, Neck and
Body Acne, not only associated
with your face, it can be anywhere on the body. If you suffer from neck, back,
chest, or any other area of your body, you could have a unique skin germ called
Pityrosporum, a yeast, which requires pyrithione zinc for treatment. Facial
Pityrosporum involves itchy or tender pimples, and blackheads are less common
and often closed over with skin stead of open and black.
While the above are done both at home in your skincare
regimen, but are also done in the treatment room. We can also do regular peels
with Salicylic or Glycolic Acid. These peels, along with regular facials, can
also treat any acne scaring that has occurred. Peels are also beneficial to
combating aging too.
Many lucky people outgrow acne after the teenage years, but
many others do not. Your skin’s needs, and its tolerance to acne products,
change with age, and customizing your skin care treatment routine needs to take
that into account. If you are still battling acne while you are also battling
the effects of aging, it will take more product layering to get the job done
right.
