Acne Treatments in the Treatment Room

Again, continuing on with acne, but we are now also getting into anti-aging concerns too. These next treatments will help both acne scars and anti-aging pigmentations, due to scaring and sunspots, but can help with fine lines and wrinkles too. We will first start with finishing up our discussion with acne treatment in the treatment room, then we will move onto anti-aging.

There is no single solution that applies to any individual or to every acne scar, it depends on the location, depth, size, and number of scars to be treated. It also depends on your expectations and the amount of money and effort you plan to devote to the treatment of your acne scars, and that will factor into the results that you are looking to achieve. Individually designing a program aimed towards your unique scaring situation will help maximize improvement.

Dermabrasion is the process of deep exfoliation from either a diamond head or iodized crystals, which can be both done manually and by a machine. This procedure has fallen out of favor with the availability of newer, easier techniques.

Chemical Peels involves the application of a high-potency acid upon the skin. The more potent the acid, the deeper the penetration into the skin. I find that this is a more beneficial treatment for post inflammatory skin and minor acne scars. To penetrate the chemical peel deeper into the layers of skin, in later treatments, I would add the Dermaplaning. Peels even out pigmentation and improves skin texture. Dermaplaning would then be a double exfoliating process, which will result in better skin. Together, they can improve file lines and wrinkles.

There are a lot of treatment products out there for anti-aging, and it could be very overwhelming, just like acne. The first two, Dermabrasion and Chemical Peels are not only good for those acne scars and pigmentation. Dermaplaning is also great for age-spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, with chemical peels, they can improve texture as well. Getting faster results, as the products will be penetrating deeper into the skin.

If you are looking for more of the drastic, immediate results, you will then go onto injections of Botox and Juvederm, or even cosmetic surgery. Now I do not perform this procedure in my treatment room, but is another alternative to looking younger, and to get rid of those wrinkles. Over time, you will not look natural, and there can be side effects. For more information on these procedures, I can refer you to a clinic.

There are so many solutions for acne scar issues. Everything that I’ve described in my last few blogs are options to help with combating your acne and treating those scars from past damage. Do not put off your skin care routine prescribed for you, and if there are changes, make sure that you let your esthetician or dermatologist know. We may need to make some changes to your routine, the earlier we know, the earlier we can start treatment, and the less likely scaring may occur. Prevention is the best and most effective form of treatment.

Back to School: Staying Healthy in the Classroom and Beyond The start of the school year is an exciting time for kids and parents alike. But it can also be a time when germs are easily spread, especially in close quarters like classrooms and school buses. Here are some tips for staying healthy during the back-to-school season: Wash your hands often.  This is the single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of germs. Be sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after being around someone who is sick.

Oncology Skincare and Maria's Gift from GlyMed Plus

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women today. Today, when you look around, you will see the unique things people are doing to help promote awareness of this disease and the efforts to find a cure. You cannot help be touched by all the different ways professional athletes and coaches are showing their support. From pink shoes, pink sweatbands, and pink ribbon stickers on helmets, it is great to see then all get involved. If you or someone you know is undergoing treatments, GlyMed Plus, the skincare line that I use and carry in my studio, has a program called "Maria's Gift".  Maria's Gift helps breast cancer survivors by donating GlyMed Plus professional pr...

Role Models

November is National Inspirational Role Models Month . No matter your age, gender, or stage in file, having someone who inspires you to be the best version of yourself is always a positive thing. Perhaps it is a friend, a celebrity or an activist. Whether the person is high-profile or not isn’t important. Their character and ability to inspire, guide, and teach carries much more value. This month let’s focus on the person who motivates you and thank them for their leadership. I would like you to share who inspires you? I’ve mentioned some of the characteristics of a role model, but let’s go into more detail. A  role model  is a person other people look up to in order to help determine appropriate behaviors.  Role models  can be either positive or negative. ... Virtually anyone can be a  role model , but in Western culture, publicly visible figures such as athletes, actors, musicians, and celebrities are the most common  examples , which are not always...
