New Year, New You with Bright and more Youthful Skin

2014 is almost done and 2015 is amost here, what are your resolutions? New Year's bring resolutions are made and most times broken. Tell me what is your resolution?

My resolution this year is to be prosperous and bright in all of my endeavors. To achieve the goals that are made and make new ones for the ones that have been met. But more importantly, if your resolution is to have great looking skin with less fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, or acne scars...then I want to make sure that I am helping you achieve your resolution with dermaplaning (skin blading) add-on with either a facial, peel, or standalone.

What is dermaplaning (skin blading)? It is a gentle method of deeply exfoliating the skin, where a blade is worked over the face to remove the out layers of dead skin cells, as well as fine hair. This treatment is great for sensitive skin, with no downtime, to better penetrate the products into the skin. For best results, I recommend a course of 4-8 treatments in 3-4 week intervals where results will be seen with each and every treatment.

Benefits of dermaplaning (skin blading):
  • Immediately refines the youthfulness of the skin.
  • Removes facial hair (peach fuzz), which absorbs oil, dirt, environmental toxins, and excess products.
  • Removes surface dead/keratinized skin cells.
  • Increases the skin's ability to absorb products.
  • Stimulates circulation of blood and lymph flow.
  • Enhances the natural shedding process of the skin.
  • Softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Minimizes the appearance of pores.
  • Reduces hyper-pigmentation creating a more even skin tone.
  • Improves elasticity and texture.
The frequently asked questions with dermaplaning (skin blading) are as follows:
Will my facial hair come back black or coarse? The answer is No. The purpose of the hair on on our face is to regulate skin temperature. It will not grow back darker, thicker, or more coarse. The hair on the chin and lip is regulate by hormone production, but lacks the required amount of testosterone to grow hair in that manner that men do.
Can men benefit? The answer to this is Yes. However, due to the coarse hair of the beard area, men can only be treated in the upper cheeks, around the eyes, and on the forehead.

Contraindications: If you have any of the following conditions or use any listed medications, I cannot perform the service and an alternative treatment will be recommended.
  • Autoimmune Disease (Aids, HIV, Lupus)
  • Cancer Therapy
  • Blood Thinners
  • Accutane
  • Diabetes
  • Open Lesions
  • Active Shingles
  • Hemophilia
  • Thin, weak, or delicate skin (often found in the elderly)
  • Sun, wind, or chemically burned or otherwise raw skin
  • If you are taking antibiotics, you should wait until 10 days after completion.
If this is something that you are interested in having done, or experiencing...but more importantly, are wanting to get rid of those fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, or acne scars...then this is the treatment for you.

Back to School: Staying Healthy in the Classroom and Beyond The start of the school year is an exciting time for kids and parents alike. But it can also be a time when germs are easily spread, especially in close quarters like classrooms and school buses. Here are some tips for staying healthy during the back-to-school season: Wash your hands often.  This is the single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of germs. Be sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after being around someone who is sick.

Oncology Skincare and Maria's Gift from GlyMed Plus

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women today. Today, when you look around, you will see the unique things people are doing to help promote awareness of this disease and the efforts to find a cure. You cannot help be touched by all the different ways professional athletes and coaches are showing their support. From pink shoes, pink sweatbands, and pink ribbon stickers on helmets, it is great to see then all get involved. If you or someone you know is undergoing treatments, GlyMed Plus, the skincare line that I use and carry in my studio, has a program called "Maria's Gift".  Maria's Gift helps breast cancer survivors by donating GlyMed Plus professional pr...

Role Models

November is National Inspirational Role Models Month . No matter your age, gender, or stage in file, having someone who inspires you to be the best version of yourself is always a positive thing. Perhaps it is a friend, a celebrity or an activist. Whether the person is high-profile or not isn’t important. Their character and ability to inspire, guide, and teach carries much more value. This month let’s focus on the person who motivates you and thank them for their leadership. I would like you to share who inspires you? I’ve mentioned some of the characteristics of a role model, but let’s go into more detail. A  role model  is a person other people look up to in order to help determine appropriate behaviors.  Role models  can be either positive or negative. ... Virtually anyone can be a  role model , but in Western culture, publicly visible figures such as athletes, actors, musicians, and celebrities are the most common  examples , which are not always...
